Last night, at 9 p.m., I received a call from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee seeking money to support their candidates running for office this year. I want to make it clear that I’ve never been a one issue voter, but right now becoming a one issue voter seems like my only viable option. I told the caller “No. I’m not giving any money to the Democrats until Tammy Baldwin takes a position on the Stop Online Piracy Act.”
He went on to list a bunch of issues that didn’t get passed due to the Tea Party landslide in 2010 and how the President needs more Democrats in the Senate to get his back. I didn’t think of it at the time, but I should have said “Bullocks, the President had all the Democratic Senators he needed in his first two years, but somehow everything Progressive he sent to Congress made it through the House, but died in the Senate. Democrats in the Senate have done very little to show me they’ll support the President’s agenda.”
I didn’t say that, but instead reiterated my position after he told me they make notes as to why individuals are refusing to send money. I explained in further details how SOPA and PIPA can impact my business directly and told him to call me back once my Representative, who is running for Senate, takes a stand against SOPA. If she doesn’t I told him not to bother calling me back, because it’s clear government doesn’t work for me anymore.
I’ve called Rep. Baldwin’s office a half dozen times. I asked for a 10 minute meeting while she was home during the winter break, but it was refused. She’s Represented her district well in the House, but I need a Senator who can make faster and stronger decisions. I need a new Russ Feingold, not a new Herb Kohl.
