Be the Media With Dane101

As we have seen with the recent Occupy protests, the proposed deficit reduction and the GOP debates for the Republican candidate nomination, citizens are regaining their lost interest in politics. Young people who are entering the workforce or facing unemployment for the first time want to know their state politics. No longer are they content hearing from a national broadcaster about what is happening on a national level. They want to know who and what is helping to improve their quality of life. They need someone on the ground that is able to tell them what is happening. Dane 101 is in the process of filling that gap in Wisconsin.

What began as an Arts and Culture website that occasionally dabbled in the political arena soon became the exact opposite. Dane 101 saw the need to fill the gaping void in the market for a website dedicated to politics in Wisconsin.

Dane 101 already has a number of writers on the ground. In order to expand to the entire state of Wisconsin, Dane101 must be sure it has the funding for freelance writers who can cover the stories that really matter to the people of Wisconsin. Not only will people demand in-depth coverage of the Presidential election as it unfolds in their state, they will also want to know what bills are seeking approval in Madison and how decisions made in Madison affect Milwaukee and the Fox Cities. Dane 101 aims to be the resource for this information.

It is a hugely important year for politics in America and in Wisconsin with important elections, a possible recall of the Governor and the potential for more protests. Exact needs are broken down in great detail on Dane 101’s “Be the Media” campaign page, right down to what each freelancer they hire will be covering. Dane101 is close to tipping with plenty of time left in the campaign.  We’re excited to see how far Dane101 can go with its campaign—check it out, pledge, Tweet, share and contribute to the fight for honest local political coverage.

Joe Donnellan

I have a BA in Public and Social Policy at NUI, Galway and have very recently relocated to Boston to live the American dream and to dive head first into the global community. I am still finding my feet here but I am trying to gain as much valuable experience as I possibly can. I enjoy the game that is politics and I also feel quite strongly about the subjects of genocide, human rights abuses and social exclusion. I love all manner of sport but have become more of an arm chair fan in recent year. My personal philosophy is that I want to leave everything in a better place than it was when I came in contact with it. You can follow me on twitter @joeydonn.
